Another Two Apprentices on Their Way to Sustainable Employment

'Safe Person of the Month' for November 2014

Neil Cains receiving his Safe Person of the month award and shopping voucher for November 2014.
Neil was given the award following after reporting smoke coming from an adjacent building to the Acid Dilution refurbishment project within the Royal Mint. The smoke was caused by an electrical fault within a panel in the adjacent building, which if not dealt with, could have resulted in a significant fire.

The Royal Mint acknowledged Neil's efforts and his prompt action and passed on their gratitude to him and the team.

'Safe Person of the Month' for August 2014

Tony kept the person safe with the help of an ambulance First responder, but it took over an hour for an ambulance to finally arrive, by which time he had evacuated him off the main site.

It was later determined that the injured person had suffered anaphylactic shock due to something he ate, and he has subsequently made a full recovery.

Turf Cutting Ceremony at Broad Haven C. P. School

Staff and pupils of Broad Haven C.P. School joined council dignitaries and representatives from the Andrew Scott team for a turf cutting ceremony to celebrate the progress of the construction work on site at the new £2.25 million school.

The work is expected to take 12 months in total.
Headteacher Andrew Williams said: “I’m just delighted that Broad Haven is benefitting from the 21st Century Scheme to provide us with a fantastic school that will soon be able to cater for children from the age of 3 up to 11.”

The first phase, which started in July, is the new extension to the rear of the existing school which will accommodate classrooms, early years, reception and kitchen servery areas.

The second phase will encompass the refurbishment of the existing school.

Mark continues to break more records

After qualifying for the British championships and breaking the British record, Mark Lewis went on to compete in the British finals of the GPCGB Powerlifting Championships in which he entered at 100kg body weight masters equipped class and won breaking his own British record deadlift again at 302.5kg and qualifying for the European Powerlifting Championships.

Scott Morris receiving his 'Safe Person of the Month' Award for June 2014

Scott received the award for June for identifying a damaged pin on a quick hitch device attached to an excavator belonging to another contractor on a Western Power site.
Although the contractor had no connection with the on-going Andrew Scott works, Scott highlighted the fault to the excavator driver, and the activity was halted until a fitter arrived to repair the fault.
This action highlights the type of work practices Andrew Scott are promoting with our “Always Safe” behavioural safety campaign. Well done Scott.

Joint 'Safe Person of the Month' for May 2014

Aubrey Ilic, Site Foreman at the new RNLI lifeboat station at Portishead being presented with his award by Project Manager, Gavin Evans.
Aubrey was selected for the award to recognise his achievement of maintaining a consistently high standard of controls and H&S performance on the site at Portishead, with the a zero accident record on the job whilst working around potentially hazardous tidal conditions.
Aubrey has kindly donated his £25 prize to the Portishead and Bristol Lifeboat Station.

Welsh GPCGB Powerlifting Championships 2014

Andrew Scott Ltd are proud to be sponsoring record breaking, Mark Lewis on his Power Lifting success.

Mark entered the 100kg Masters Equipped Body Weight Class in June, which he won. He also qualified for a place in the British championships and broke the British record for dead lift by lifting 300kg, the record had originally been held at 265kg.

Mark is now in training for the British Championships in August 2014 and would like to thank Andrew Scott for their sponsorship and support.

The Andrew Scott team at Fleetwood working on the PPP3 Project have received an award from Victrex (client) and K Home (Principal Contractor) for outstanding SHE performance in 2013.

The PPP3 Project has included the construction of a new 4 storey process building, including an effluent pit, site drainage, new roads and numerous support structures.

It has been a challenging project, with the site team cooperating on a daily basis with numerous other trades. Targe, Chris and Tracey have made a massive effort from a health and safety perspective and made an invaluable contribution towards the project. This is an excellent achievement, and a big well done to all concerned.

Andrew Scott Ltd praises staff

Three Andrew Scott employees were recognised for their commitment to Health & Safety at the site employee forum held at Blancos Hotel on 23th Jan.

Roy Launchbury, Karl James and Bernie Raymond were presented with a £25 shopping voucher and certificate by Andrew Scott Managing Director Mark Bowen, in recognition of Near Miss cards that they submitted highlighting certain H&S issues, which were then rectified to avoid any injuries to themselves or any of their colleagues.

The “Safe Person of the Month” award will form part of the recognition programme combined with the Andrew Scott “Behavioural Safety Initiative” which was launched in January 2014, which promotes proactive accident prevention by changing the attitudes and everyday behaviour of our entire workforce in how we deal with hazards and unsafe actions in the workplace.

Andrew Scott Ltd bridges the gap for Hereford

A £3m foot and cycle bridge over the River Wye in Hereford has officially opened.
The 100m (328ft) long structure is part of the three mile (5km) Greenway route, linking the city centre to the Rotherwas Industrial Estate.

Cyclists and walkers are now able to use a new bridge in Hereford after it was officially opened this week.
The bridge, funded by Sustrans, was officially opened by Herefordshire vice-chairman Councillor Chris Chappell.
The bridge forms part of the Sustrans national cycle network and provides a vital connection between the City of Hereford and the Rotherwas Industrial / Business area of the city.

The project was managed by Andrew Scott Ltd, Project Manager Gavin Evans. Gavin engineering experience of over 20 years enabled him to manage the day to day of the project including all planning, monitoring and reporting to ensure the project is delivered on time, to budget and to the required specification.

A group of young carpentry students aged 17-18 from Coleg Ceredigion have joined Andrew Scott Ltd on site at Cardigan Castle.
The request came from Stephen Jackson as part of the training agreement required by the project funders. The students will primarily be allocated to Andrew Scott Ltd sub-contractors to carry out controlled and supervised works.

Mark Williams MP calls Castle project ‘inspirational’

Mark Williams Liberal Democrat MP for Ceredigion was welcomed to the site of Cardigan Castle by Cris Tomos, Castle Director and Mark Davies Project Manager for Andrew Scott Ltd. He was given a tour of the site including Castle Green regency house, gardener’s cottage, stables and regency and kitchen gardens as well as the beautiful medieval walls.

Mark Williams stated; ‘Seeing what is happening at Cardigan Castle is inspirational, when I first saw it a few years ago I could see the potential was huge, but seeing it come to life truly is an inspiration.’ He went on to say that he’d been deceived by the size of the site from the outside and that the plans for the two and a half acre site were very exciting. ‘This project is preserving history and creating history whilst tapping into something that will benefit Cardigan and the County’ he stated.

Andrew Scott Ltd successfully completes new storage warehouse in 18 Weeks

A proud day for Andrew Scott Ltd yesterday at they witnessed the official opening of ABInBev new storage warehouse at Magor Brewery, Caldicot yesterday. The new facility has taken 18 weeks to build and which allowed ABInBev Ltd to make a number of important changes lowering our impact on the environment.

Approximately the size of five football pitches, the facility will help reduce the need for the brewery to use external storage sites, and drastically reduce our CO2 emissions. The development of the new warehouse will remove the need for over 330,000 kilometres of lorry journeys during 2013-14.
Following the opening ceremony, which was officially opened by Jessica Morden MP, guests were given a guided tour of the brewery, allowing them to see what other environmental initiatives were in progress, and for them to meet the members of the team who have made them possible.

Working Well Together Refurbishment SHAD

Andrew Scott Ltd supported the Working Well Together - Refurbishment Safety & Health awareness day (SHAD)

This event was the first SHAD run by the group, badged as refurbishment.
Huw Llywelyn, SW WWT Chairman, kicked off the event with his introduction and the shocking statistics comparing the numbers of people killed in construction with those killed in Afghanistan. New Office in West Wales

Andrew Scott Ltd has opened a new office in Pembrokeshire.

Located in the centre of the county town of Haverfordwest, the office will be a point of contact for clients throughout the Pembrokeshire area and help us establish vital partnerships with local businesses. Though the office has been running since 9th September, the official opening and announcement of our presence in the county was held on Thursday 03 October in the Shires Wine Bar, Haverfordwest. Andrew Scott Ltd take CIOB to new heights

Andrew Scott Ltd had the privilege of inviting the Chartered institute of building (CIOB) Pembroke Branch to the construction works at Cardigan Castle on Tuesday 10th September 2013.

Over 30 construction professionals from Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire attended and were given a talk and a tour of the works by Mr David Davies and Mr Keith Pritchard; project managers for the £9 million scheme. Also in attendance were Mr Chris Tomas and Miss Bethan Wyn from CADWGAN trust who explained the funding of the works and how on completion it will be run as a social enterprise.

Access was provided to inspect the restored castle battlements, the stable block and main house under renovation. A once in a life time opportunity to inspect the roofs was made available to those with a head for heights. It was an opportunity for Andrew Scott Ltd to showcase their conservation, restoration skills and attention to detail.

It was with great pleasure that Andrew Scott Ltd and Cadwgan Preservation Trust welcomed the Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones AM, First Minister of the Welsh Government to speak at an event showcasing one of the biggest heritage projects in Wales, the £11m scheme to restore the birthplace of the Eisteddfod, Cardigan Castle. Cris Tomos, Cardigan Castle Director presented on the project at a drinks reception held at the National Eisteddfod, Denbigh 2013 on Monday, 5th of August.

The event held at the Pl@iad tent at the National Eisteddfod gained support not only from the First Minister, but also from John Griffiths AM, Elin Jones AM, Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM as well as members of Llenyddiaeth Cymru, National Theatre of Wales, the Welsh Rugby Union, Cymru a’r Byd and many more.
