Bristol Bridge Finzels Reach Gets the Green Light with South Wales Construction Specialist at the Helm
We are delighted to have been awarded the exciting contract for the new Finzels Reach Bridge in Bristol. Finzels Reach is a residential, commercial, retail and leisure development that has dominated the local and regional news, and the proposed footbridge has been designed to provide the finishing touch to what is already being dubbed the ‘perfect place to live and work in the city’.
Work on the bridge, which provides access across the city’s floating harbour, is underway with a 23-week construction period expected.
“The shared pedestrian and cycle bridge will link the mixed use development Finzels Reach with Castle Park and Cabot Circus without the need for stairs or lifts making it accessible for all. Whilst there are a few technical and logistical challenges that we’ll have to overcome to bring the project to completion, we are confident that the finished result will be a striking compliment to an already exciting development,” said Bill Pugh, Contracts Manager at Andrew Scott Ltd.
The works comprise in the main of the design, construction, installation, testing and commissioning of temporary site accommodation and associated parking areas at the Cattle Market site. The Andrew Scott team will also design and construct a new piled pier, fender protection for the bridge piers, and new abutments at Hawkins Lane and Castle Gardens. Modifications will be made to the existing ferry landing platform, with hard landscaping, new lighting and the use of safety signs completing this phase of the project.
Lead developer Cubex has commissioned a number of consultants, including Andrew Scott, to complete the project. Dickson Powell as joins as Project Manager and Employers Agent, Landmark as Landscape Architect, Bush Consultancy as Concept Architect and Design Management, and Clarkebond (UK) Ltd as Concept Engineer.
The Andrew Scott technical design has also been developed in partnership with Opus International Consultants. Cubex Director Gavin Bridge added, “Finzels Bridge will be a lasting legacy from Bristol’s year as European Green Capital and we are committed to creating a bridge that will be enjoyed by all users for many years to come.”
“The addition of Finzels Bridge is particularly significant to not just the wider project but the entire city. As Gavin said Bristol’s title as European Green Capital has led to a surge of investment and development, and we are so proud to be a part of what is already a vibrant place to live and work,” concluded Mark Bowen, Managing Director at Andrew Scott Ltd.
