The Cross Hands East Plot 3 project is currently being delivered for the Cross Hands Joint Venture, a partnership between Carmarthenshire County Council and Welsh Government, supported by the Active Building Centre and partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund. This £12m sustainable employment project involves the construction of 32,500 square feet of low carbon offices, light industrial units and hybrid spaces for letting across three buildings. The aim of this innovative project is to achieve ‘net zero carbon in-use standard’ and will see on-site renewable energy produced to contribute to the energy requirements of its occupiers.. The investment in this net zero carbon project represents commitment from Carmarthenshire County Council and Welsh Government, alongside the European Regional Development Fund to deliver a cleaner, greener future for Wales and create sustainable employment opportunities in the region.

As part of the Cross Hands project, Andrew Scott Ltd have delivered a programme of employment and training opportunities, ensuring we not only grow and sustain our local workforce, but also impact on prosperity across Carmarthenshire and the wider South West Wales region. We are particularly proud of our commitment to our Apprentices, who are a crucial part of our business. As we reach the halfway point of the Cross Hands project, we have supported the learning and development of 6 Apprentices so far, delivering 118 Apprentice weeks to date. The project has supported Apprentices working towards qualifications in groundworks, bricklaying, welding and fabrication as well as construction and the built environment.
Apprentice Spotlight: Ifan Thomas
Carmarthenshire resident, Ifan Thomas is a Technical Apprentice with Andrew Scott Ltd who’s employment was created as a result of this project, joining the team on site in September. As a Technical Apprentice, Andrew Scott Ltd are providing Ifan with the experience, training and support needed to become a future Site Manager. Ifan currently spends one day a week at college and the other four days on site at Cross Hands where he is assisting with the daily management of the site. He has been working with all members of the site team including the Project Manager, Engineer, Foreman and Quantity Surveyor, gaining experience across all different disciplines. Ifan is particularly interested in the sustainability aspects of the project and has been supported in becoming the project sustainability champion. This has involved training on the SmartWaste system which Ifan is using to record construction waste and energy which will help us record and report the embodied carbon of the project.
Speaking of his Apprenticeship Ifan said “Being able to contribute to such an important project in Carmarthenshire has been brilliant. At such a young age it’s amazing that I am able to be part of a big construction team, taking on responsibilities that make a real difference. This Apprenticeship has meant I can start my career, earning money while learning and gaining qualifications to support my journey to become a Site Manager.”
Andrew Scott Ltd Project Manager, Chris Mayes said “Ifan is a valued member of the project team, works well with everyone and has grown in confidence over the past few months. He is committed and eager to learn, never shying away from what is thrown at him on site. Ifan has taken responsibility for a variety of tasks and contributes well to the running of the project. I can see a positive future in the industry for Ifan and look forward to working with him as his career continues.”
Mae prosiect Plot Dwyreiniol 3, Cross Hands ar hyn o bryd yn cael ei ddatblygu fle rhan o Menter ar y Cyd Cross Hands, sef partneriaeth rhwng Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin a Llywodraeth Cymru. Mae’r fenter wedi’i gefnogi gan y Ganolfan Adeiladu Actif ac wedi’i ariannu’n rhannol gan Gronfa Datblygu Rhanbarthol Ewrop. Mae’r prosiect cyflogaeth gynaliadwy hwn yn werth £12m. Wrth i ni gyrraedd pwynt hanner ffordd prosiect Cross Hands, rydym wedi cefnogi dysgu a datblygu 6 Prentis, gan ddarparu 118 o wythnosau Prentis. Mae’r prosiect wedi cefnogi Prentisiaid sy’n gweithio tuag at gymwysterau mewn gwaith daear, gosod briciau, weldio a yn ogystal ag adeiladu a’r amgylchedd adeiledig.
Craffu ar y Prentis: Ifan Thomas
Yn byw yn Sir Gaerfyrddin, mae Ifan Thomas yn Brentis Technegol gyda Andrew Scott Ltd, sydd wedi’i gyflogi yn sgil y prosiect hwn. Ymunodd â’r tîm ar y safle ym mis Medi. Fel Prentis Technegol, mae Andrew Scott Ltd yn darparu’r profiad, yr hyfforddiant a’r gefnogaeth sydd ei hangen ar Ifan i fod yn Rheolwr Safle yn y dyfodol. Ar hyn o bryd mae Ifan yn treulio un diwrnod yr wythnos yn y coleg a’r pedwar diwrnod arall ar y safle yn Cross Hands, lle mae’n cynorthwyo gyda rheolaeth ddyddiol y safle. Mae wedi bod yn gweithio gyda phob aelod o dîm y safle gan gynnwys Rheolwr y Prosiect, Peiriannydd, Fforman a Syrfëwr Meintiau, gan ennill profiad ar draws yr holl ddisgyblaethau gwahanol. Mae gan Ifan ddiddordeb arbennig yn agweddau cynaliadwyedd y prosiect ac mae wedi derbyn cefnogaeth i ddod yn bencampwr cynaliadwyedd y prosiect. Mae hyn wedi cynnwys hyfforddi ar y system SmartWaste y mae Ifan yn ei defnyddio i gofnodi gwastraff adeiladu ac ynni a fydd yn ein helpu i gofnodi ac adrodd ar y carbon sy’n rhan o’r prosiect.
Wrth siarad am ei brentisiaeth dywedodd Ifan “Mae gallu cyfrannu at brosiect mor bwysig yn Sir Gâr wedi bod yn wych. Er i mi fod yn ifanc, mae’n anhygoel fy mod i’n gallu bod yn rhan o dîm adeiladu mawr, ac yn ysgwyddo cyfrifoldebau sy’n gwneud gwahaniaeth gwirioneddol. Mae’r Brentisiaeth hon wedi golygu y gallaf ddechrau fy ngyrfa, gan ennill arian wrth ddysgu a chael cymwysterau i gefnogi fy nhaith i fod yn Rheolwr Safle.”
Dywedodd Rheolwr Prosiect Andrew Scott Ltd, Chris Mayes “Mae Ifan yn aelod gwerthfawr o dîm y prosiect, yn gweithio’n dda gyda phawb ac wedi magu hyder dros y misoedd diwethaf.
